Primus Haacht from Belgium

プリマスビールは中世の公爵で大酒飲みであったジャン・プリマスが由来です。そのビールの味はと言えば、私の記録では、あまり印象に残らなかったようです。

Primus Beer is named in honour of Jan Primus, a medieval duke of Bravant who had a great capacity for drinking. His name became corrupted to Gambrinus and has been adopted as the name for breweries and beers throughout the world.

Maes from Belgium

マースはアントワープに近いワールローを拠点とする醸造所でした。とあるドイツ醸造所の助けもあり、1880年設立。ブリティッシュワトニーグループの傘下でなんとか経営してきましたが、新しいスコッチアンドニューキャッスルの傘下では、さほどいい扱いを受けなかったようです。よって、ワールローの醸造所は2003年に閉鎖、マースのブランドはアルケン社に移ります。
もし、マース社がそのまま存在していたら、チェコのモルトとサーツのホップを効かせた2～3か月熟成させたラガービールだったでしょうが、スコッティシュアンドニューキャッスルのマーケティングポリシーはそのような浪費は認めなかったでしょう。よって、私の試飲のコメント通りの味になっています。

Maes is based in Waarloos, near Antwerp. Maes Pils first appeared in 1880 with some help from German brewery. The company somehow survived a period of ownership by British Watneys Group, but it has fared less well under new owners Scottish & New Castle (S&N). Waarloos was due to close in 2003 and its brands to be moved to Alken. Maes Pils, if it survives, it's lagered for 2-3 months with brewed by Czach malts and Saats hops, but the S&N marketing men will no doubt frown on such extravagance.
